| Megan Sack, a 16 year old from Mendota interviewed women and researched the topic of Women Welder's of the Seneca Prairie Shipyard as an Illinois History Fair Project. Using the research she collected, she wrote a play and created a museum type exhibit which won 1st at state competition in Springfield IL (20,000 students participate in History Fair in IL) Megan's exhibit was selected to represent the state in the Washington D.C. area National History Day competition held June, 2006 at the University of Maryland. Megan's Rosie the Riveter: Women in the Work Force during WWII exhibit was judged in the top 20 in the Nation (700,000 students compete in history fair nation wide) Her project as well as its bibliography has been donated to the Seneca Library in Seneca IL. Her hope is that people doing research on the shipyard will come across her bibliography and information and her exhibit will be available for "check out" for any group wishing to display it at different sites. Megan may be available to speak to groups or at events on her topic and can be contacted through the Mendota History Club address or PH # 815.539.9454. If one wishes to check out the exhibit to display at another site this may be done through Margie at the Seneca Illinois Public Library. |
