The Snohomish County was showcased in the states at numerous times and cities during national holidays like Memorial Day, Veterans Day and the 4th of July, among a few. While I was aboard we went to Monterey, California during one holiday for viewing. Then, while in Japan in 1958 the ship again served as host for a Christmas party for an orphanage located in Kure, Japan.
I say again, because during a Wespac tour in (1955) while I was aboard we also hosted an orphanage group.

I can say that the ship looked to be in top notch shape at this time and that is a sign of a good Captain and Crew. (ccb)

Those smiling faces tell the story better or as well as any words. From experience I can tell you the smiles eased it's way into each shipmate's expressions too. I've never seen a more appreciative group of kids. And with all the commotion of the event and presentation of gifts, they were perfectly under control during my tour in 1955-56 and apparently during this cruise in 1958
