The LST 391 was the original intended ship to be returned to the United States from Greece as an operating Memorial. It was in very good shape when the investigative crew went there to view it. However, it was gutted before the crew arrived later to bring it back to the states.
Overcoming obstacles beyond anyone's imagination, the LST 325 was made operational with good old American ingenuity. With hard work and the cooperation of the Ambassador of Greece and the Greek Navy the ship sailed from Greece to the United States, arriving in Mobile Alabama in January 2001.
