Hey Skipper,
Do you have the keys to your car?

It seems to never fail. You go to Okinawa by way of the Pacific Ocean during the wrong time, and you’ll get into the effects of a Typhoon.

In 1948 the LST 1126 made it’s second tour to WESPAC , making port in Hawaii, Okinawa, and several ports in Japan.

Dave Bellmard told of the ship getting into a Typhoon. They attempted to outrun it or dodge it, (fat chance with a LST speed) but ended up having to ride out the effects.

During this event, among other things being tossed around, including the crew, they lost the Captain’s car during the storm. I failed to ask and It wasn’t clear to me if it was his personal car or a vehicle supplied by the Navy for the Captain’s use.

Either way the vehicle keys quickly became very useless.
