I went to the National Archives and Records facility in Washington, DC to get information for the years I was on the USS Snohomish County - LST 1126. I found out when I got there they had what they call pull times which is when they will go into the lower levels where the records are and bring out the ones people have ordered. I got there at a bad time as the pull had just finished. Therefore I had to wait a pretty long time before they went down again to get the records of the ship I wanted. I was visiting my son who lives in DC and he and my wife were downstairs waiting on me. I had to cut the visit short and this is all I noted on some paper. I only noted various days and events the ship made port or left to get an idea of where all we went during the Far East Tour in 1954-1955. I fully intend to go back to get the full report on all the years of my service aboard the ship which was late 1953 to early 1957 when I was discharged. Well, not really discharged, I still had 4 more years of inactive reserve to fulfill. (ccbenton)
1954-1955 Far East Tour of Duty or WESPAC Tour as the Navy calls it. According to the ships records it made eight of these in 25 years plus three Point Barrow Alaska trips. The final years the ship was home ported in Okinawa.
I can honestly tell you that I do not recall the ship making all of these ports. I could only recall a time we beached at Inchon and had to spend the night on shore power when the tide left us high and dry
